#ANCNC members 'manipulating BGM outcomes'

#ANCNC members 'manipulating BGM outcomes' | News Article

ANC members in the Northern Cape have been accused by the provincial leadership of the party of manipulating the Branch General Meeting (BGM) nomination outcomes.

ANC Provincial Secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, says certain members are changing the nomination outcomes of the BGM and community meetings, in favour of their preferred candidates. He has warned those involved in the alleged acts of serious consequences, if caught. Ngxanga says this is a serious offence that can lead to disciplinary action.

"The ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) appeals to all comrades that the results of BGM/Community meetings must be respected at all times, irrespective of the outcome," he adds.

Ngxanga says the PEC will not register a candidate where there is clear evidence of manipulation.

ANC members have further been issued with a stern warning to stop disrupting the meetings of the ANC.

"Disputes that are lodged will be dealt with objectively by the provincial list committee," Ngxanga adds.

The Northern Cape is the only province with an ANC PEC in central South Africa. North West and Free State only have Interim Provincial Committees (IPC).

In 2018, the North West PEC was disbanded following the resignation of former Chairperson and premier, Supra Mahumapelo, following the sporadic violent protests in the capital city of Mahikeng.

Meanwhile, in April 2021, the Bloemfontein-based Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in the Free State set aside and declared as unconstitutional and unlawful the ANC's provincial conference which was held in May 2018. This meant that the PEC, where MEC for Roads and Transport, Sam Mashinini, was elected as the chairperson of the party; and Agriculture MEC William Bulwane as his deputy, was unconstitutional and invalid.

This was after a disgruntled group of ANC members took the matter to the SCA over the BGMs which were illegally constituted because those who attended the Ilanga Estate conference were those from the nullified 2017 Nasrec delegation - which emanated from the Parys conference.
