The 15-year-old star skateboarder, Boipelo Awuah, is making an early return to her hometown of Kimberley after suffering a pelvic fracture that forced her to withdraw from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Community members will welcome her with open arms on Friday morning at the Kimberley Airport in the Northern Cape.
In an interview with SABC News, Awuah said that the injury occurred on the second day of training at the Olympic village.
The Northern Cape scholar says she is happy to be back with her family who welcomed her at the airport in South Africa and is overwhelmed by the endless support she has received since her return.
Awuah adds that she wishes to fully focus on her recovery process so that she can return to play as soon as possible. She says that being surrounded by the best sportsmen and women in the world has motivated her to work harder to hopefully win a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
