SA to face Israel in David Cup next year─── MORGAN PIEK 09:57 Tue, 31 Oct 2017
The greatly anticipated Euro/Africa Group 1 Davis Cup relegation tie between hosts Israel and Romania was completed this weekend with Israel winning the tie 5-0. The tie was played in Ramat Hasharon.
Israel were the last team in the Euro/Africa Group 1 to maintain their Group 1 status for the 2018 competition and will play newly promoted KIA South Africa in round 1 from 2-3 February 2018 in the newly announced two day Davis Cup format.
South Africa gained promotion to Group 1 in September this year when they upset Denmark 4-1.
The tie will be hosted in South Africa as the last and only encounter between the two nations took place in 2001 in Israel with the hosts beating South Africa 3-2.
Tennis South Africa (TSA) confirmed that no venue for the February tie had yet been decided and applications from various provinces to host the tie were being considered.
