Sithole eyes Rio bronze─── MORGAN PIEK 09:50 Wed, 14 Sep 2016
The South African wheelchair quad tennis star, Lucas Sithole, has set his sights on the bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The South Africa faces the former world number one, David Wagner, of the USA in the bronze medal match today.
Sithole lost 6-0, 6-3 in the semi-final to the current world number one, Dylan Alcott, of Australia on Monday.
Alcott in his turn is the firm favourite for a gold double after winning the men’s quad doubles on Tuesday with Heath Davidson.
Alcott faces Britain’s Andy Lapthorne in the gold medal match which will follow the game between Sithole and Wagner.
Sithole says he knows where things went array against Alcott and wants to set the record straight against Wagner.
“I couldn’t get my rhythm, I couldn’t hit the ball the way I wanted to, I kept missing the lines,” said Sithole.
“I was very frustrated with my forehand and I kept missing a lot of the balls with my backhand, but he played well.
“It happens, it’s normal, but I will learn from it and look forward to the bronze match.
“Obviously I’ll have to practise to stay in shape for the bronze match and hope that I can take that one home.”
Sithole’s match against Wagner in Rio is set to start at 19:00 on Wednesday night.
