“It was difficult and I didn't like the level we were playing. In the first half, we suffered while in the second half, we lost the ball less and played better. But those are all trivial details now - we won - the dream continues.”
The Spanish giants, Real Madrid, have won the UEFA Champions League for a record-extending 15th time to be crowned as the kings of Europe.
On Saturday night, Los Blancos beat the German Bundesliga team, Borussia Dortmund, to claim the honours at the iconic home of English football, Wembley, in London.
Dani Carvajal broke the deadlock in the 74th minute of the final by scoring the opening goal, while nine minute later, Vinicius Junior, found the back of the net to double the lead.
This proved to be enough for the Spanish team despite a barrage from Dortmund, who were hunting for just a second title and first in 27-years.
Carlo Ancelotti - UEFA
For the Real coach, Carlo Ancelotti, it was a record fifth title as the manager, and it’s two more that the three each by Zinedine Zidane, Pep Guardiola of the legendary Liverpool tactician Bob Paisley.
Ancelotti conceded that it was a difficult final
“It was difficult and I didn't like the level we were playing,” said Ancelotti.
“In the first half, we suffered while in the second half, we lost the ball less and played better.
“But those are all trivial details now - we won - the dream continues.”
Toni Kroos - UEFA
For the German and Real great, Toni Kroos, it was the perfect send-off as he bowed out of international football with a sixth Champions League title.
Ancelotti added that Kroos could not have called time on his illustrious career at a better time.
“He’s finished at the top - it is not possible to go out better,” added Ancelotti.
“He is a legend of this club and obviously we all thank him for what he has done.
“It’s not just in his play but his attitude and professionalism. He never missed a day in these ten years and the club.
“We hope he changes his mind on retiring, and if he does, we are here.”
