The mood in the Banyana Banyana camp remains upbeat at they fine-tune to face Argentina in Dunedin on Friday in their next match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
On Sunday, South Africa were beaten 2-1 by Sweden in Wellington, and had things gone their way a little more, they could have beaten the world’s third ranked team.
Banyana’s defence was good, while they didn’t have a lot of opportunities on goal, they made it count.
Argentina in their turn were beaten 1-0 by Italy on Mondau in a thrilling end-to-end Group G clash at Eden Park.
The Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis, said they are confident ahead of facing the Argentines.
“We are very positive for the next two matches, but we are no underestimating the teams,” said the former Banyana skipper.
“We know out capabilities, we know what we are good at and we know what we need to do.
“I do not think that it all doom-and-gloom. If you look at the results versus the performance, it's a completely different thing.
“It's not just a result that we were not in the game, it's one of we were in the game and could have won it, so for that we are feeling confident and positive for the next two games.”
Friday’s match at the Forsyth Barr Stadium kicks off at 2am.
