R2,3bn recovered from Eskom, Transnet corruption | News Article

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has recovered R2,3 billion lost through corruption at Eskom and Transnet.

Ramaphosa replied to the debate on his State of the Nation Address in the National Assembly on Thursday.

He admitted the money is only a fraction of what has been lost due to state capture.

"The recovery of stolen funds arises from the SIU investigations. While Eskom and Transnet have between them recovered more than R2.3 billion in monies lost to corruption we know that is just a fraction of what has been lost to state capture.

"We would like to see more monies that were lost being recovered and they will be recovered as we move forward," Ramaphosa says.

Ramaphosa added that those implicated in fraud and corruption will face the full might of the law.

"We are determined that all these funds must be recovered and returned no matter where in the world we need to go and find them and bring them home.

"We are determined that all those who have stolen money from the people and all those who continue to steal money from the people should face the full might of the law because South Africa is a state where there is rule of law."
