Steinhoff withdraws from Varsity Cup─── ADRIAN BOTHA 12:43 Thu, 11 Jan 2018
Mere days after announcing their withdrawal as title sponsor of the South African 7's team, Steinhoff International has dropped yet another bombshell as they yesterday announced their withdrawal as a second-tier sponsor of the Varsity Cup.
Steinhoff has long enjoyed a successful partnership with the Varsity Cup, but despite this, yesterday cut ties with the tournament amidst the ever growing and ever public financial strife.
Varsity Cup management, in their turn, have however assured players and spectators alike that the 11th edition of the inter-varsity rugby competition will continue with all 4 competitions, namely the Varsity Cup, Varsity Shield, Young Guns, and Koshuis Rugby.
The Varsity Cup will start on the 29th of January with the first game of the competition featuring the defending champion, the University of Pretoria Tuks, who welcome the University of the Free State Shimlas to Pretoria for the opener.
