Simbine fires more warning shots ahead of Paris─── MORGAN PIEK 07:26 Fri, 31 May 2024
“I am happy with my performance and I hope there will be more highlights coming up as we build towards the Olympic Games.”
The South African 100m record holder, Akani Simbine, has continued to fire warning shots ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris later in the year.
Simbine ran another blistering time of 9.94 seconds in the 100m sprint on Thursday night to win gold and the Oslo leg of World Athletics Diamond League in Norway.
Japan's Abdul Hakim Sani Brown ran 9.99 to finish in second and Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme took the bronze. The reigning Olympic champion, Marcell Jacobs, from Italy had to settle for fourth. Eseme and Jacobs each clocked a time of 10.01.
For Simbine it was a second season’s best time this year after also doing it earlier in May in Atlanta, USA.
Following his win, Simbine, said he there is still a lot of work to be done in the lead-up to Paris.
“It ended up in the rain which probably influenced the race but at the end of the day we all have to run 100m rain or not and get to the line first.
“I am happy with my performance and I hope there will be more highlights coming up as we build towards the Olympic Games.”
