Van Niekerk back to compete in SA Champs─── MORGAN PIEK 07:54 Tue, 19 Apr 2022

The 400m world record holder, Wayde van Niekerk, is back in South Africa where he will be competing in the National Championships in Cape Town this week.
The former world and Olympic champion, Van Niekerk, will not be competing in his trademark event of the 400m. Van Niekerk will only be competing in the 200m for men this week.
Van Niekerk is no stranger to the half-lap event and boasts with a personal best time of 19.54 seconds.
It is believed that Van Niekerk will spend a few weeks in South Africa but competing in the final leg of the ASA Grand Prix series does not form part of his itinerary.
The last leg of the series will take place on 21 May, however, the Bloemfonteiner will be back overseas by then to compete in the World Athletics Diamond League.
The first meet on the Diamond League will be on 13 May in Doha, Qatar.
The heats of the 200m for men will begin at 10:30 on Friday morning.
The SA Senior Championships will be taking place in Cape Town for the first time in 22 years.
