Celia Seerane has become the latest Proteas hockey player to announce her retirement from the sport at an international level.

Seerane, who has long been a stalwart of the North West University and South Africa, represented the country on 168 occasions.

The 31-year-old Seerane, who is the younger sister of the former Bafana Bafana and Ajax Cape Town left-back, Brett Evans, made her national debut in 2010.

She recently represented South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics.

Seerane said she is grateful to have had the honour of representing South Africa at international level.

"It has been an honour to represent my country. I have had amazing opportunities and I am so grateful for every single one of them.

"Thank you to all the coaches and SA Hockey for the tremendous support over the past decade! I look forward to supporting the team as they face the challenges in the future!"

Following the Olympics, the Proteas stalwarts, Rassie Pieterse, Austin Smith, Lisa-Marie Deetlefs all also announced their retirement.
