Defending Varsity Netball Champions, The University of the Free State are chasing their fouth and second consecutive Varsity Netball title.

The Kovsies team started their campaign against current log leaders, UP Tuks. The journey of their title defence started in a shakey manner with a defeat to Tuks.

The defeat to Tuks served as a reality check for the ladies from Bloemfontein as they struck back with 6 consecutive wins in the round robin stages, including a nail biting 65-61 win over Maties on Monday 23 June, which saw them book a home semi-final in Bloemfotein.

The previous match against Maties would serve as a warm-up of sorts as the two sides will meet, again, in the tournaments' semi-final on Monday 30 June to determine who will make into the final.

The Kovsies team are looking to defend their title which they won convincingly last year, and add a fourth star to their kit, and fourth trophy for the cabinet.

The will be facing a well poised Maties team who will be looking for revenge after last weeks' narrow defeat to the dream to.

The two sides will meet in Bloemfontein again, with that semi-final starting at 17:00. That match will be followed by the second semi-final of the tournament when UP Tuks host their toughest opponent of the year thus far, North West University.

The previous encounter between these two sides was decided only in the dying stages of the match, with Tuks finishing on top with a 46-43 win over the North West side. The semi-final between the two teams will be held in Pretoria, with the match starting at 19:00.
