“I’m committed to leading by example, with passion, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. I’m looking forward to this new chapter and making South Africa proud.”

The Proteas netball team has announced a new captain following the retirement of Bongi Msomi.

The Free State Crinums stalwart, Khanyisa Chawane, has been named as the new captain of the senior national team. While Chawane is still only 28 years old, she has played in more than 80 Tests for South Africa and represented her country at the Commonwealth Games, as well as at the Netball World Cup.

Chawane’s first assignment as captain will be during the upcoming SPAR Netball Challenge. She said they want to go out to impress, adding being given the captaincy is a big honour. She’s determined to lead by example.

‘It’s a privilege to lead such a talented and dedicated group of players’

“I am truly humbled and honoured to be appointed captain of the Proteas,” said Chawane. “It’s a privilege to lead such a talented and dedicated group of players. I’m excited to take on this new challenge and work with the coaches and teammates to achieve our goals.

“I’m committed to leading by example, with passion, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. I’m looking forward to this new chapter and making South Africa proud.”

The SPAR Challenge is set to be played in October against African opponents such as Malawi. Netball South Africa will confirm the fixtures and opponents in due course.
