The University of the Free State Kovsies will be targeting a record third Varsity Netball title on Monday when they host the University of Pretoria Tuks in the final.

Kovsies won the first two editions of the popular tournament, however, it will be the first time that the final will be hosted in Bloemfontein.

Tuks are the defending champions, however, they did lose 68-42 to Kovsies in the opening round of the tournament.

The Kovsies captain, Alicia Puren, told OFM Sport that there is no reason why they cannot win this evening.

“We must not focus on not winning, or losing, or the outcome of the game. We must rather focus on playing the best netball, playing the best combinations and playing the best plays.

“If we do that, I think we can pull it through. We need to focus on perfecting everything because I don’t think that we have played the perfect game yet.

“It would be great to end off the year with the perfect game of netball.”

Puren added that for them it is one thing playing in the final, but to have the hosting rights makes t just that more special.

“It is a big privilege to be able to play in the final. It has been a long year, and it has been a long season.

“We are really excited to be facing Tuks in the final, and having said that we are really honoured to contesting the final at home.

“It is the first time in the six-year history of the competition that it will be hosted in Bloemfontein, so it's really a big honour to be hosting it.”

Monday evening’s final at the Callie Human Hall on the campus gets underway at 18:45.
