#MangaungShutdown might be over soon─── CATHY DLODLO 11:38 Tue, 18 May 2021
Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, is set to meet with the leadership of the Mangaung Community Concern, the organisation behind the Mangaung Shutdown, on Tuesday afternoon.
Her spokesperson, Sello Pietersen, confirmed to OFM News that a meeting has been scheduled for later on Tuesday.
The shutdown made national headlines when a 14-year-old Grade 7 learner from Heide Primary School, Liam Siegal, was shot and killed in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, on Monday. It also led to the closing of businesses and roads across the city.
According to social media posts, plans are to intensify the strike action on Tuesday as the organisers await a meeting with Ntombela.
Protestors are demanding a response to their memorandum that calls for better service delivery, a plan to address unemployment, land for residential and business sites, and more.
Meanwhile, provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, said the security guard – who was arrested in connection with Siegal’s death - and the protesters who were arrested in connection with public violence are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
