ANC Northern Cape set to elect new leadership at 10th provincial conference─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 11:30 Mon, 21 Apr 2025

The ANC in the Northern Cape is geared up to hold its much-anticipated 10th Provincial Elective Conference in Kimberley, to elect new leadership as the party begins to prepare for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
The party has since started with the first leg of the conference, which includes the registration of delegates from various regions’ branches.
This milestone gathering brings to an end the term of the 9th Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), which was elected in May 2021 in Springbok. The outgoing leadership is expected to present a report detailing the work done since then, providing an opportunity for introspection and accountability.
According to Deshi Ngxanga, the ANC Provincial Secretary in the Northern Cape, the conference will take place from April 22 to April 24, under the theme: “The year of renewal to make ANC a more effective instrument of the people to achieve the vision of the Freedom Charter: The people shall govern! The people shall share in the country’s wealth!”
Ngxanga emphasised the significance of the conference in advancing the ANC’s renewal agenda. “The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) held its final meeting before the conference to assess the organisation readiness, reflect on key preparatory reports and consolidate logistics ahead of the gathering,” he said.
The 10th Provincial Conference follows a series of successful regional conferences held across the Northern Cape.
Regional conferences
- John Taolo Gaetsewe Region – Hosted in Hotazel from March 21 to 23.
- ZF Mgcawu Region – Held from April 4 to 6.
- Namakwa Region – Conducted in Concordia from April 7 to 8.
- Frances Baard & Pixley ka Seme Regions – Held in Barkley West and De Aar respectively from April 11 to 13.
“All five regions now elected a new Regional Executive Committee that will play a crucial role in deepening the ANC’s renewal agenda and preparing the movement for the 2026 Local Government Elections,” said Ngxanga.
He added that the province has exceeded the national target of convening the Provincial Conference with at least 70% branch participation. He said the province has exceeded this target and currently stands at 81.4% of ANC branches that have successfully held branch general meetings and elected new Branch Executive Committees in preparation for the conference.
The ANC in the Northern Cape comprises 232 branches, with 189 qualifying to participate in the conference – an impressive 81.4% of total structures.
