Agri podcast: Senekal protester granted bail | News Article

The Bloemfontein High Court today granted bail to the 51-year-old Senekal protester, André Pienaar, reversing the Senekal Magistrate's Court’s ruling on the matter.

Judge Celeste Reinders ruled that Pienaar should be released on bail of R15 000, effectively setting aside Senekal Magistrate Buti Mlangeni’s order on bail. Reinders found that Pienaar’s legal team, led by Advocate Jacques Potgieter, succeeded in showing that the 51-year-old former farmer and businessman was in fact not a flight risk as suggested by the state.

A weather forecaster for the South African weather services, Tonie Russouw, told OFM that the current heat wave being experienced by the central South African region is expected to start subsiding by tomorrow. Thunder storms are expected around Thursday and Friday in the eastern and southern regions, which will bring a sense of relief, according to Russouw. The heat wave not only caused scorching hot weather, but also played a huge role in veld fires, says Rossouw. He adds the biggest concern at the moment is the high fire danger caused by the hot and dry conditions.
