FS Department of Agriculture to host Female Entrepreneur Competition─── NOMAQHAWE MTEBELE 14:36 Thu, 27 Jul 2017
The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will be hosting its annual Female Entrepreneur Competition, in Ventersburg, next week.
Eighty-eight contestants from the five districts throughout the province will be competing in various agricultural categories.
Winners will go on to compete on a national level, later in August.
According to Lejweleputswa districts, Mangi Ramabenyane, this forms a part of the department's campaign to encourage female and youth participation in the agricultural sector.
“It is an empirical truth that all over the world, 60% of the support in the agricultural sector comes from women but you will find that women are not taken seriously by the sector itself. Therefore, in South Africa, there has been a call to ensure that each sector of the economy reflects a 50/50 share in ownership and participation,” explains Ramabenyane.
“So this is one of the programmes where the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries seeks to ensure the inclusion of women in the agricultural sector, reward the efforts they are making and ultimately present a transformed agricultural economy,” continues Ramabenyane.
