Vodacom has started refunding customers' airtime and data | News Article

Vodacom is refunding airtime and data to customers whose airtime and data mysteriously disappeared.

The cell phone network says that there was a technical issue last night, which resulted in the depletion of data bundles. Vodacom apologises to customers for the data crisis and said they are committed to ensuring that all affected customers will be refunded in full. The data mystery comes amid public outrage over high mobile-data costs about the largest mobile operator in South Africa. The Competition Commission has recently launched an inquiry into data services.

Media spokesperson for Vodacom, Byron Kennedy, says the problem has been resolved.

"There was a configuration change on their billing system that has proven to be problematic. We were able to isolate the problem fairly quickly to resolve it during the course of last night. We are currently busy engaging with customers via Twitter, Facebook and other means of social media and we are refunding them with the data and airtime lost," says Kennedy.
