Amcu members striking at Sibanye Platinum─── 15:35 Fri, 27 May 2016

Potchefstroom - Trade union Solidarity has called on the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union’s leadership to get its members under control and to exercise their right to strike within the guidelines of all relevant legislation.
This after Amcu declared a dispute with Sibanye Platinum at its Kroondal Mine in the Rustenburg area over the appointment of a bus contractor. As a result of the dispute, Amcu members began striking yesterday evening.
Striking workers allegedly stoned some vehicles last night. According to Solidarity General Secretary, Gideon du Plessis, the commencement of the strike last night also violated the 48-hour strike notice, which only expired this morning; therefore, the strike began as an unprotected strike.
Meanwhile, Sibanye spokesperson, James Wellsted, told OFM News this afternoon it’s disappointing that Amcu has embarked on a potentially damaging strike action over an issue which Sibanye is committed to resolving.
