Fezile Dabi's troubles to be laid bare─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:44 Tue, 06 Nov 2018
The issues that have been continuously plaguing the troubled Fezile Dabi Municipality in Sasolburg in the Free State are on Tuesday set to be in the spotlight during the Cogta Minister's municipal progress report.
This as the municipality has recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Minister Zweli Mkhize is amongst other issues expected to speak on the financial woes of municipalities in the province.
Previously OFM News reported that the Municipal Manager was accused by members of the provincial standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) of hijacking the municipality.
Chairperson of the committee, Neels van Rooyen, earlier also told OFM News that the committee was contemplating legal action against the Human Settlements MEC, Oupa Khoabane, and the municipality after he failed to intervene on matters in that municipality.
This as again Khoabane snubbed two meetings to which he received invitations to come and account about the state of this municipality.
Meanwhile, while addressing the Lekgotla on Tuesday, Khoabane told the gathering that despite financial woes in municipalities across the province he is hopeful that turnaround strategies implemented by his department will result in positive outcomes.
Earlier FS (Scopa) told OFM News that it will be tabling its final report on the audit outcomes of municipalities in the province, excluding the troubled Fezile Dabi District municipality.
Van Rooyen said this as the municipality completely failed to respond to any of their meeting requests.
