Mangaung Metro awaits Centlec report | News Article

The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality said it could not comment on issues related to the ongoing downing of tools at Centlec.

This is according to the Metro’s Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, who told members of the media at a briefing session earlier this morning that she has not yet received the report on matters that the workers at the utility are complaining about.

Yesterday, workers gathered outside Centlec in Bloemfontein demanding that there be an improvement in the working conditions. Among the issues raised by the workers was the removal of a heap of asbestos material on the premises, a call for nepotism and tender fraud to end, as well as the permanent employment of workers currently in acting positions.

Previously, OFM News reported that the workers are also calling for the removal of the utility’s CEO. Andries Mgoqi, on allegations that he has run the entity into a state of disarray and ignores their concerns. In the memorandum of demands received by the Deputy Mayor, Lebohang Masoetsa, the workers demanded that their grievances be addressed within a period of 48-hours, which lapsed yesterday.

One of the employees, Kgosietsile Motlhale, told OFM News they have received a letter from the deputy mayor requesting an extension to deal with their issues. Furthermore, Masoetsa’s response does not paint a clear picture as to when he will attend to their issues. Meanwhile, Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, has neither answered OFM News’ calls to him with regards to this matter nor has he responded to OFM News’ set of questions.
