Questions are mounting as to whether there will soon be a change in the leadership of the Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State or not.

This, as Executive Mayor Lindiwe Tshongwe this morning faces a motion of no confidence. With approximately just nine months into her term of office, opposition parties in this coalition-led municipality demand that she vacates office.

The African Independent Congress (AID), the Forum for Service Delivery (FSD), and the Metsimaholo Community Association (MCA) alleged that she has run the municipality into a state of disarray and lacks control over her mayoral committee. They further accused her of lacking the capacity to ensure adequate services and to uphold council resolutions, among others.

Although there are reports that the SACP could lose control of the only municipality it governs, should the ANC vote with the other opposition parties, the SACP’s spokesperson, Phillip Kganyago, told OFM News they are confident that she will survive the motion of no confidence and maintains the contents of the motion do not have substance.
