Kathu municipality in debt crisis─── JOSCA HUMAN 05:51 Fri, 17 Aug 2018
The Gamagara Local Municipality in the Northern Cape owes Eskom close to R55 million rand.
OFM News was visiting the town of Kathu in the province, where residents say their water supply often gets cut.
They have also complained that they do not get their water bills, so can't make appropriate payments, and OFM News was told that some residents have not received bills since July 2017.
The municipality allegedly received notices from both Eskom and Sedibeng Water about its intentions to interrupt the bulk electricity and water supply unless the municipality settles its outstanding debt with these entities.
OFM News is awaiting a response from the municipality.
