Galeshewe residents concerned despite normalcy─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:09 Wed, 08 Aug 2018
Despite the normalcy that has returned to Galeshewe in Kimberley following weeks of violent protests, residents are still concerned.
The OFM News team is in Galeshewe where residents took to the streets last month to protest over electricity tariff hikes and demanded that two Sol Plaatje senior municipal officials step down, including executive mayor Mangaliso Matika, following claims of corruption.
Katleho Morapela reports that residents in this township are still concerned over service delivery issues and the management of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality. This, despite the normalcy that has returned to the town following weeks of violent protests.
"We are currently at the Tshiamo Primary School, which is one of the 75 schools that were shut down by protesters. At this stage all seems well, learning activities are currently underway."
Despite the residents who expressed their concerns over the running of the municipality ahead of the court case on 22 August, learners in this area told OFM News that they are currently under pressure as they are working hard to catch up on the work they missed whilst schools were shut down.
