An extreme cold front is moving over the country, with temperatures of up to -8 degrees expected.

The South African Weather Service’s Michael Nethavhani told OFM News that light snow can be expected across the central part of the country.

Nethavhani is advising people to keep all pets indoors and provide shelter for all livestock. He says small stock farmers are advised that the combination of the cold, wet and windy conditions may be fatal to stock.

Windy weather can also be expected over much of the western parts of the country, with strong northwesterly winds of 55 to 65 km/h. Snowfall is expected, as temperatures drop over the southern parts of the country.

Nethavhani says snow is possible in the Northern Cape this evening and could clear up tomorrow afternoon. Nethavhani says residents of Bloemfontein can be expecting temperatures of -6 degrees this week, with maximum temperatures of 14 degrees Celsius.
