#BreakingNews: Fire breaks out in Standard Bank Building in Welkom─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 13:16 Mon, 21 May 2018
A fire has broken out on the first floor of the Standard Bank Building in Welkom’s City centre today.
According to Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Matjhabeng Municipality, Francois Klaassen, the fourth floor houses the Department of Social Development. Klaassen told OFM News one of the Department’s storage rooms, where clothes and blankets are kept to later be handed out to the needy, caught alight this morning. Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, has confirmed police are also at the scene. Klaassen says at the moment, the fire brigade has managed to control the fire.
He says the fire is extinguished but they are busy damping it down. He adds personnel are also currently removing the remaining blankets and clothes in the storage room.
