Calm returns to #Brandfort─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 17:15 Fri, 13 Apr 2018
The situation in Brandfort in the Free State is calm after chaos erupted earlier today in service delivery protests.
Angry community members have been protesting - among other issues - water interruptions that left the community without water for about three weeks.
The protests descended into chaos when community members started pelting police vehicles with stones.
They also rolled a Jojo tank around, eventually setting it on fire. Community member Emily Rampooana told OFM News the water that is provided for the community in Jojo tanks is not sufficient to carry out their basic needs.
Rampooana says their anger emanates from the poor service delivery in the area, in reference to yesterday’s power outage which Brandfort Forum member Koos van Wyk said was due to cable theft.
She says they will continue to fight till their basic needs are met.
Community leaders would meet this afternoon with the Municipal Manager of the Masilonyana Local Municipality at the Brandfort Police Station to discuss their concerns.
