Bloemfontein Golf Club manager confirms foiled armed robbery | News Article

The Bloemfontein Golf Club Manager, Trevor Kitching, says the seven men who broke into the Golf Club early this morning entered the premises where the cameras did not pick it up.

Kitching says a security guard was shot in the legs and hit on the head, while another employee who resides on the premises was also attacked with a stick when they broke the door down to get into his room. The employee is currently in a stable condition but was also taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Kitching says they will be looking at ways to secure the entire premises, however, these things do happen. He wants to ensure clients and customers that they will be looked after and that they need not worry.

He says the suspects were most likely under the false impression that the employees had the keys to the golf shop and the bar. Kitching says nothing was stolen, but they will be upping their security and will be employing armed response.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, confirmed the incident earlier, saying a case of attempted murder has been opened. According to her, the security guard was approached by four suspects, one of which was armed, at about 01:00 this morning. The security guard was wounded in the leg in what seemed to be a foiled robbery. Mbambo says the injured guard was taken to Life Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein.
