A number of roads will be closed in Kimberley in preparation for Armed Forces Day. Several important roads will be closed to traffic including Memorial Carrington and Du Toitspan, among others.
Army rehearsals will be taking place on these routes from 19 to 21 February. Some schools will be closed on Wednesday. The main entrance to Kimberley Hospital will also be closed off so residents are asked to use a back entrance via Synagogue Street. The public is asked to be patient as activities commence. According to Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison’s Lesego Wolfe army activities have already begun.
“The army was able to hold exhibitions for young children who were brought from schools to gather and see what career options there are in the army,” explained Wolfe. Members of the public were also able to see live exhibitions that included guns, cannons and air shows, he said.
