Separate road accidents claim two lives in Central South Africa | News Article

Two men died in two separate accidents in Central South Africa in less than 24 hours as far as it is known.

A man was killed and four others injured yesterday afternoon when a light delivery vehicle overturned on the R59, about 10km outside Parys in the Free State. ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, says paramedics found a man's body lying on the side of the road. He was declared dead on the scene. Paramedics from ER24 and other emergency services treated the injured patients whose injuries ranged from moderate to serious. Advanced life support interventions were provided to those who were seriously injured. They were transported to the Parys General Hospital after treatment.

According to Meiring the exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known. In another accident, a man, believed to be in his 60's, was killed yesterday afternoon when his motorbike rear-ended a car on the N4 in Rustenburg.

Meiring says ER24 paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries. He was already dead. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated in an effort to revive the patient.

No vital signs returned, and he was declared dead. The driver of the car did not sustain serious injuries, says Meiring.

Local authorities were on the accident scenes and investigations continue.
