The disciplinary hearing of a student from the North-West University's Vaal Triangle Campus in Vanderbijlpark, who is charged with assaulting her roommate, will take place tomorrow (23 Nov).
The alleged assault reportedly occurred on Monday, October 30. A video of the incident later went viral on social media. Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, after seeing the video, also promised to look into the matter. At the time university spokesperson, Annette Willemse, told OFM News that the alleged aggressor was temporarily banned from campus, which meant she could not proceed with her examinations.
Meanwhile, the disciplinary hearing of another student from the Potchefstroom campus of the NWU was finalised on Friday (17 Nov). Phomolo Maoba was found guilty of bringing the University into disrepute after making a racist entry on Facebook following the Black Monday Protest against farm murders. Moaba said protesting would not help farmers and they would be killed like former AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche.
Spokesperson Louis Jacobs says Moaba has been permanently suspended from campus but added the suspension was itself suspended for the duration of her studies. He adds, however, it is not sure whether Moaba will register to continue studying next year. She was also issued a R5000 fine.
