Animal cruelty, livestock mutilation of great concern in FS─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:21 Sun, 12 Nov 2017
A reward of up to R10 000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in stock theft, animal abuse and mutilation of sheep on a farm in the Free State is offered by a global animal protection organisation.
Head of the Humane Society International organisation’s Africa division, Audrey Delsink, says the lack of animal welfare is of growing concern. She adds that another concern in the province is the issue of increasing stock theft and acts of animal cruelty. This, after a social media post showing sheep that were mutilated at a farm in Harrismith went viral.
Delsink says the organisation is also working with the local authorities and the NSPCA in this case.
She urges the public to speak up against animal cruelty and to report incidents.
Delsink also appeals to the public to make donations to animal protection organisations where possible.
