Mangaung Metro still in consultation regarding torched Bloemfontein City Hall─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:54 Tue, 12 Sep 2017
The Free State Heritage Committee says the Mangaung Metro Municipality has extended an open invitation to all architects in the province to weigh in during the inspection process of the Bloemfontein City Hall.
The Chairperson of the committee, Joe Serekoane, says a task team to help the municipality with plans to fast-track the restoration process of the City Hall was then established. He says they are hopeful that the selected group will assist in establishing the best practices in repairing the historic building and will ensure that all due processes are followed. He, however, adds that this will take some time.
Serekoane adds that this process might take a long time as there is a lot of consultation and research that has to be done with regard to the restoring of building material of that magnitude.
He adds that after the process is completed, the municipality will communicate the next step to be taken, which might include consulting historians and people with heritage experience to identify some of the building material not damaged that will need to be archived.
