Bloemfontein - Free State MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development, Oupa Khoabane, visited various projects supported by the department this week.

This was to assess the progress of the agricultural projects throughout the province.

According to a statement, the department’s intervention in the projects aimed to improve productivity and help them to access markets.

According to Khoabane, each of the projects spread throughout the province have been operating for a number of years and are at a production stage.

“The projects are to create jobs but not just to create jobs. They are a springboard for creating entrepreneurs through cooperatives and ultimately you then create big business out of it. The aim is to ensure that you develop society out of it and also develop people,” explains Khoabane.

The projects include Virginia Poultry, Africa Flowers, and Springfontein Small Stock. According to a statement, the department has erected a fence, cattle handling facilities, a shearing shed, and supplied veterinary equipment to  Springfontein Small Stock.
