Investigations continue at Kuruman High School─── MARK STEENBOK 11:43 Mon, 04 Sep 2017
The Northern Cape Department of Education has ruled out the possibility that any learners were impregnated at the Bothithong High School in Kuruman.
The spokesperson for the department, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says the department conducted an investigation at the school on Friday after allegations of sexual relationships between learners and educators surfaced. He says the investigation revealed that three educators at the school are implicated and have been placed on precautionary suspension. Van der Merwe adds that the department ruled out the allegations that learners were impregnated, due to insufficient evidence provided during the investigation.
The MEC for Education, Martha Bartlett, was expected to visit the school this morning.
“We will assess whether the school needs any further support in relation to counselling of learners and educators.
"It is important to ensure that all legislative processes are followed in terms of the disciplinary code to ensure that the process is fair to both the complainants and the alleged perpetrators. The department has dispatched an experienced team of investigators to Bothithong High School to ensure that all allegations made by the learners are investigated comprehensively,” says Van der Merwe.
