Mangaung Metro resolves strike | News Article

The Mangaung Metro Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Olly Mlamleli, says the municipality has finally reached an agreement with the South African Municipal Workers' Union on salary increments and is soon expecting the workers to report for duty.

Speaking at a council sitting this afternoon, Mlamleli rubbished claims that she backtracked on an agreement for a salary increment and that she is to blame for the torching at the City Hall. She says an additional amount of R2500 is to be added on their salaries. She says a salary increase of 7,36 % is also going to be added and that workers will receive their backpay from the 1st of next month.

Mlamleli adds that allegations that she refused to sign the agreement are outrageous and that she did not form part of the Local Labour Forum (LLF). Mlamleli says she is pleased that the strike that has been dragging on for more than a month is finally put to an end. She says the municipality is greatly disappointed by the torching of one of the historic buildings in the city.

The South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) is yet to confirm the agreement.
