Bloemfontein - Workers affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in the Mangaung region have embarked on a full-blown protected strike at Mangaung Metro Municipality in Bloemfontein this morning.
Earlier this week between one and two thousand workers gathered at the municipal offices and handed over a memorandum of their demands. These demands included the cessation of daily political interference by councillors, contract and payment issues, operational matters, and also to do away with outsourcing and privatisation of municipal services by various departments.
Workers were resolute that they will not return to work until all their demands are met.
