North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo will reveal the six-meter bronze statue of JB Marks .

North West Premier’s spokesperson, Brian Setswambung, says the erection of the statue forms part of the provincial government’s promotion of the spirit of reconciliation, healing and renewal.

“It’s extremely significant in that it’s part of the ongoing work by the provincial government in honoring what we can refer to as stalwarts - our heroes who played a pivotal role in the freedom that we have achieved and that we are enjoying today.

“Let we forget that it is important to remember to honor and to preserve the gallant struggles that they waged against the apartheid regime,” he adds.

*Marks was born on 21 March 1903 and died on 1 August 1972 in Moscow, Russia, after suffering from a heart attack.

The former SACP and ANC leader’s remains were reburied in Ventersburg on 22 March 2015 in Ventersdorp after his body was repatriated from Moscow. - Moeketsi Mogotsi/OFM News
