Tlokwe council handling sewerage problems | News Article

Potchefstroom - The Tlokwe (NW 405) City Council is well aware of the ongoing sewerage crisis in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, and is working tirelessly to rectify the situation.

This is according to spokesperson William Maphosa. His comment follows an announcement by the DA that it intends to lay a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission and also criminal charges with the police. Several families in Sarafina Road, Extension 11, Ikageng, Potchefstroom, have been living with raw sewage overflows around their houses for nearly four months.

Maphosa says the situation was exacerbated by recent heavy rains, and residents funneling rainwater into the sewerage pipes.

“The council is attending to it – we are doing our best to ensure that the issue is addressed. But, at the same time, we are also appealing to homeowners not to channel water into the sewerage system as this causes a lot of problems,” Maphosa added.
