Unclear whether Poppie vd Merwe murder accused will appear after suicide attempt─── 06:36 Wed, 25 Jan 2017

Brits - It is unclear whether the man accused of murdering his three-year-old stepdaughter, Poppie van der Merwe, will appear in court today after he was hospitalised following an attempted suicide.
Kobus Koekemoer (43) was admitted to hospital last Thursday after he slit his wrists with a razor blade while incarcerated. He was arrested in October last year after he allegedly murdered the toddler on a farm at Mamogaleskraal near Brits. She died from bleeding on the brain after she was repeatedly kicked.
North West police spokesperson, Pelonomi Makau, says Koekemoer and his wife, Louisa, were due to appear in court today for another bail application. Both have previously been denied bail.
Koekemoer is in a stable condition and is receiving counselling in hospital.
