Bloemfontein - Parents of learners at Lereko Secondary School in Bloemfontein are fuming because of the lack of resources and teachers at the school.
One parent, Masabata van Schalkwyk, says this has led to the poor performance of her children. She said her daughter, a grade eight learner at the school, has to repeat the grade because of a lack of textbooks. She said learners also had to make do without a mathematics teacher.
OFM News' Katleho Morapela reports that the Free State Education Department has denied being responsible for the issue.
She says head of the Free State Department of Education, Stanley Malope, says no child should be without a textbook. He says each school in the province has been provided with enough learning materials and textbooks for the 2017 academic year.
Malope says his department went through a thorough process delivering textbooks in time to schools in the province and are only delivering top-up orders now. He said if the school does not have enough textbooks and/or teachers it should take responsibility for it.
