Transport Minister takes festive season campaign to North West─── 07:38 Thu, 15 Dec 2016
Potchefstroom – Transport Minister, Dipuo Peters will embark on road safety activations and law enforcement operations in Potchefstroom in the North West province today.
This, as part of the Department of Transport’s festive season road safety campaign. The ministry said in a statement the aim of the activations is to develop and maintain responsible road users across the country.
Later in the day, Peters, in collaboration with Engen Petroleum and Youth in Road Safety, will join the #Ridewise campaign at the Engen Garage in Potchefstroom. The initiative is aimed at increasing awareness around the dangers of texting and driving, driver fatigue and speeding.
On board to communicate driver safety messages to young South African drivers between the ages of 18-34 are well known celebrities such as Dr Malinga, who will entertain motorists at Engen service stations, as well as some of the cast members from Skeem Saam.
The North West MEC for Transport Management and Community Safety, Mpho Motlhabane, Mayor of Ventersdorp/Tlokwe Local Municipality, Kgotso Khumalo and law enforcement authorities will join Peters during the road safety drive.
