Hawks arrest 11 Home Affairs officials at Maseru border post | News Article

Maseru - The Police's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation cracked down on corruption at the Maseru border post between South Africa and Lesotho this morning with the arrest of 11 officials from the Department of Home Affairs.

A further ten arrests are expected to be made soon as some of the suspects were not at work today. Five civilians, who are also involved in the alleged crime at the post, were arrested yesterday.

The Hawks arrested the officials for allegedly accepting bribes amounting to thousands of rand for illegally issuing visas to Lesotho citizens who exceeded their allowed time in South Africa.

Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, was present during the raid and he warned against any officials hoping to make money by abusing their positions.
