Kimberley - The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) will remain a focus of the South African government as the state’s response to unemployment despite tough economic times.
The EPWP is implemented in four government sectors. Members of the interministerial committee overseeing the programme, which include several ministers and deputy ministers under the leadership of Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, visited the Northern Cape to get grass roots level feedback on selected projects.
The deputy director-general of the programme in the National Department of Public Works, Stan Henderson, says government entities look for labour intensive technologies to implement their EPWP strategies.
