Robbers on the run after cash-in-transit robbery at Bloemfontein bus terminal─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 15:38 Thu, 07 Apr 2016
Bloemfontein - Police in Bloemfontein have launched an extensive manhunt for five men who were involved in a cash-in-transit robbery at the local Central Park Bus Terminal yesterday.
Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says a security guard from a local company, transporting large amounts of cash, was approached by a group of armed robbers after he collected a large amount of money from the offices of a bus company at the terminal. According to Marope the security guard was walking through the terminal’s mall towards his colleagues in a security vehicle parked outside, when one of the robbers pointed a firearm at him.
They demanded the security guard to lie down on the ground after which they stripped him of his service pistol. Marope says no shots were fired. Three cash boxes full of money were taken. The robbers fled the scene on foot running through the mall to the nearby taxi rank.
Marope says the security guard sustained slight injuries to the head.
Meanwhile the manager of the security company, who wishes to remain anonymous for security purposes, says the 30-year-old security guard was hit on the head by the robbers while he was lying on the groud. The injured guard received medical treatment and was discharged from the Life Rosepark Hospital yesterday. Marope appeals to the public to contact the Park Road Police Station at 051-507-6000 with information.
