Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein's Jim Fouché High School has been named 2013's top performing academic school in the Free State.
For the past few years, Bloemfontein's Eunice High School was the top performer. This time they were named best performing school in Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
The national matric pass rate was announced by basic education minister Angie Motshekga last night, with the Free State achieving the highest pass rate of 87.4%.
Jim Fouché's principle, Schalk Malherbe, says they've changed a few things at the school last year, which seems to have borne fruit.
During this morning's Well Done Function at the CUT in Bloemfontein education MEC Tate Makgoe was full of praise for the 2013 matrics.
Makgoe says they are now aiming for a 90% pass rate for this year's matrics.
