Therapeutic horse riding changes lives of disabled in remarkable way─── KAYLA BARKER 09:00 Wed, 26 Mar 2025

From SARDA Cape Town, PR Manager Bee Lukey joins Yolanda Maartens to motivate you to live life without limits and to gain understanding on the importance of the work they do.
The aim of SARDA is to provide therapeutic horse riding for persons living with disabilities. South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA) was established in Cape Town in 1973 by Belinda Sampson and Joy Finlay.
PR Manager Bee Lukey joins Yolanda Maartens to share more about who they are and what they do.
Therapeutic horse riding for persons living with disabilities aims to promote social well-being, improve quality of life and provide exercise, rehabilitation and recreation for participants and patients.
The programme includes a diverse range of people living with intellectual and physical disabilities.
Bee Lukey tells us more about how therapeutic horse riding was developed to rehabilitate soldiers returning from war and how the benefits were seen and further pursued thereafter.
SARDA, in line with its constitution, also avails its facilities to Medical Professionals for research into the beneficial effects of riding for all types of disability. Their programme also includes a diverse range of people living with intellectual and physical disabilities.
SARDA relies on fundraising to sustain its operations and to grow its operations in furtherance of its objects. Bee Lukey discussed their need for both funding and volunteers for them to continue doing what they do.
Participants from the age of 7 onwards can apply to attend their programme.
