South African teenager Potgieter set for Masters debut─── MORGAN PIEK 12:34 Mon, 27 Mar 2023
The South African teenager, Aldrich Potgieter, is set to play in a major for the second time in his career next week when he tees it up at the Masters in Augusta.
Potgieter won the 2022 Amateur Championship at Royal St Lytham & Anne's and that got him entries into the 150th Open Championship that was played at St Andrews, as well as the upcoming Masters and US Open in Los Angeles.
Last year he made his majors debut as a 17-year-old at the Old Course in Scotland.
Last week he won the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club where the top 60 amateurs in the world compete in the invitational only tournament. The past weekend he won the Georgia Cup at the Golf Club of Georgia.
Before the US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club, Potgieter will also compete the prestigious Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. He also won an invited to play in this event.
As it stands, Potgieter is just one of three South Africans to receive an invite to next week's Masters with the other being Louis Oosthuizen and the 2011 champion, Charl Schwartzel.
The top 50 players on the Official World Golf Rankings were entry into the Masters, however, there are no South Africans on this list.
The 87th Masters tees off next week Thursday in the USA.
