The former Sunshine Tour professional, Ruan Pretorius, is a third golfer from Bloemfontein to have impressed oversees.
Pretorius, who is the son of the former Free State fast bowler, Nico Pretorius, is currently in the USA where he plays for Point University in Georgia.
Over the weekend Pretorius finished in fourth overall during the Georgia Open, was also the leading amateur in the field.
Pretorius told OFM Sport that he has been focusing a lot on his mental game of late.
“It feels great to have done so well.
“I played in a bunch of these events during the summer over here in the United States.
“I’ve been playing very well and been getting a lot of help from my two coaches. Then I have a mental coach that helps me. He actually works with players on the PGA Tour as well.
“I’ve just realised that I have the game and everything, but mentally I have to become a lot stronger.
“Phil Shomo has been helping me a lot with my mental game. He has helped me with how to control myself in pressure situations. This was kind of a big tournament for me.”
In 2017 Pretorius gave up his prized tour card in order to play collegiate golf in the USA.
Pretorius also attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, as is the case with Wilco Nienaber and Dean Burmester who finished in 4th and 6th respectively over the weekend during the English Championship at Hanbury Manor on the European Tour.
